Katniss Everdeen Costume: Dress Up As The Hunger Games’ Heroine
Becoming Katniss Everdeen
Since the release of the 2012 movie, The Hunger Games, I am sure there will be a lot of young girls (and young women), wanting to dress up as Katniss Everdeen, the movie’s heroine, for Halloween.
If you haven’t seen it yet, and are looking for ideas for this Halloween costume, you can watch the official trailer here for inspiration:
Katniss Everdeen’s costume is quite simple really, nothing particularly fancy. It is basically made up of a black jacket, tan coloured pants, big black boots and the long dark braided hair. Accessories to this costume, if you want to really become Katniss, would be a bow and arrow, a costume knife and a mockingjay pin.
You may well have some items of this costume already, like the black jacket and the tan pants. You may even have the black boots as well, just sitting in the shoe cupboard waiting to be worn. If that is the case, all you really need then is the long dark braided hair – if you have shorter hair you could always wear a braided wig, and of course the accessories, just to finish off the costume.
The character of Katniss doesn’t really wear makeup. If you really don’t like to go without makeup yourself, it is best to keep it looking really natural, as demonstrated in the following video by OurLovelyHearts:

Katniss Everdeen Makeup
Step 1: Start by applying a matt bronzer all over your face and neck with a larger powder brush.
Step 2: Carefully apply a skin-tone coloured base, or eyeshadow, over eyelids with clean fingers.
Step 3: Fill in your eyebrows, only if you need to, and then set with an eyebrow gel.
Step 4: Curl your eyelashes, and then apply a coat of mascara to your upper and lower lashes.
Step 5: Finish with a matt lipstick in a colour close to your natural lip colour.
Katniss Everdeen Braid
Step 1: Firstly, apply a shine serum to the length of your hair.
Step 2: Braid your hair, bringing it to the side, and tie when you have finished.
Step 3: Any shorter strands of hair you can either pin back, or leave hanging around your face.
Step 4: Finally, use hairspray to help hold the braid in place (optional).
Katniss Everdeen is bound to be a popular costume choice, and you now know how to create this look for yourself – DIY style!
